No Treat Today 2027.1: scan a plate and watch the sugar cubes fall

No Treat Today 2027.1 adds meal scanning with Apple Intelligence — a photo of the plate becomes sugar cubes raining down the screen — plus a sugar jar for your own daily ceiling, a Memories tab, a poster of your year, and one honest change of words: the app now says sugar, not treats.

No Treat Today has always asked a single question in the evening. With iOS 27, it can also look at the plate. A camera moon orbits the Today screen: photograph your meal, or import a photo, and Apple Intelligence suggests what it sees. The recognized foods arrive as chips with their sugar attached, and the plate’s sugar rains down the screen as cubes. Nothing is logged until the usual YES or NO tap — the camera suggests, the person decides.

The update introduces:

  • Meal scanning — photograph or import a plate; Apple Intelligence suggests the foods and the app counts their sugar in cubes; you confirm with YES or NO
  • Say what the camera can’t see — tap the microphone and describe the plate out loud; the words travel with the photo, so the estimate knows about the extra frosting
  • Guess before Crush does — wager a moon on how many cubes were on the plate
  • Your own red line — cubes past the six-cube allowance turn amber, and only cubes past a ceiling you set turn red. Pour the cubes into the jar in Settings › Sugar jar to see how big a day you are allowing; it starts at twelve cubes, just under the 50 g the WHO recommends nobody pass
  • Memories — a new tab with one card per day for the plates you photographed: filter them, give one a heart, five stars or a bookmark, and bring a bookmarked memory into any meal
  • Your year on one page — History turns a calendar year into a poster, one dot per day, one mini-calendar per month, ready to share
  • Where the numbers come from — every table that prices your food says which study it came from, with a link, and admits when a figure is the app’s own estimate; a new Sources page, and “How scanning works” at the end of every scan
  • The app says sugar, not treats — the daily question is now “Too much sugar today?”, a good day reads “No sugar today!”, and sugar means whatever you told the app counts as sugar, so an apple never breaks it
  • The app turns sideways — Today, History, the poster and the scan each get a layout built for landscape, on iPhone as well as iPad

Privacy

Scanning runs on Apple Intelligence with Private Cloud Compute: photos are never stored, never used to train anything, and Apple cannot read them. Dictation uses the on-device speech recognizer, so what you say about your plate stays on the phone. Scanning needs iOS 27, a device with Apple Intelligence and a connection, and it has a daily allowance that iCloud+ can raise. Everything else in the app works as before, offline. No Treat Today 2027.1 requires iOS 17 or later.
